The Salvation Army now has a central donation and processing center in Grand Junction that will distribute items to their area thrift stores including Clifton, Delta and Montrose.

The Western Slope Processing Center is in the same building the Salvation Army was forced to close in 2010 after part of the second story loft collapsed.

The collapse occurred the day after Thanksgiving, (November 26, 2010), giving employees and customers who were in the store along with the entire Salvation Army staff a dismal and disappointing Black Friday. The upside, no one was injured.

After assessing the damage, and determining the feasibility of saving the building, work began to make repairs and improvements which are now complete.

Donations are accepted at the Processing Center, 1038 Ute Avenue, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Saturday donations will be accepted at the local stores and people wishing to donate larger items can have them picked up by calling the Salvation Army Donation Line (970) 245-9231.

Claudia Jackson, Grand Junction Salvation Army Director of Public Relations, says the opening of the processing center is also providing an opportunity to make some great changes at the stores which customers will start seeing in the days and weeks ahead.
