With increased traffic and the 100 year anniversary of National Parks, authorities set up a sobriety checkpoint on the Colorado National Monument.

As if the 23 miles of narrow, winding, guardrail-less road isn't enough to cause you to find religion, let's throw in alcohol.

Friday, August 19 was the sobriety checkpoint date. Have not seen or heard of any reports from that operation.

First of all, drinking and driving in ANY situation is wrong and illegal. But, let's just focus on Rim Rock Drive, shall we?

I remember the first time I drove (or should say 'attempted') to drive up the Monument. I had no idea what to expect. To my surprise, my brain and body did not care for the combination of steep edges and blind corners. Anxiety set in and probably some swamp ass as well. I could only get up as far as Cold Shivers Point Overlook. Had to have a visiting friend take over the driving duties.

I tell that story because I can not even fathom driving that road with a few drinks in me. That is absolutely stupid.

But, the point of this is to ask you if setting up a sobriety check point on Rim Rock was a good idea.
