Authorities in Rifle have clarified the circumstances of a teen's death earlier this month.

According to the Post Independent, Rifle Police Chief  John Dyer confirmed that 18 year old Kyle Scholla was not standing on the hood of the car prior to his death earlier this month as had previously been implied.

Initial reports from the Rifle Police Department indicated Scholla was engaged in a practice of "surfing", or standing on the hood of a moving vehicle. Dyer then clarified Scholla was actually sitting on the hood of the car, and not participating in a thrill-seeking incident.

However, authorities did state that it was a dangerous activity, which involved the Rifle teen falling from the moving vehicle, driven by one of his friends. Scholla was transported to St. Mary's Hospital, and later died.

Scholla was a member of the Rifle High School football team.
