Finding a place to rent when you have a pet is like finding the holy grail.

It's not like I have a huge dog for crying out loud. He's a little guy! Smaller than most cats, actually. But it seems everywhere I find an apartment that's affordable, it doesn't allow pets, or if it does allow them, it doesn't allow dogs.

Why is it so difficult, in an area that is supposed to love animals, to find someplace that will allow my small dog and not charge me double the rent for it?

Here's an example. 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment for $695. Perfect. It's in a decent enough area and the rent is an acceptable amount, but then this:

NO pets.

Or this one:

1 bedroom 1 bath pets ok with $300 non-refundable pet deposit. My dog is house trained and refuses to go inside. He does no damage whatsoever and yet I hit stone wall after stone wall trying to find a place to live. And I find that amount unreasonable.

Here's an idea. If you want to limit the type of pets you allow, why not base it on size instead of just no dogs?

I love Grand Junction, but this is a joke. Maybe someday soon I will find a place, but with my luck, I'll end up in Utah.
