Businesses at Grand Junction's Monument Village are asking Western Colorado residents to sign a petition, communicating to Albertsons Company Incorporated their frustration with the chains "strong-arm tactics."

Months ago, the Safeway store at Monument Village closed its doors, shutting down the area's anchor grocery store and leaving the largest building in the plaza vacant.

Dr. Ron Engler, who operates the Redland's Chiropractic and Wellness Center LLC, located in Monument Village, sent the following email:

Albertson's is holding the Redland's community hostage by holding onto a 50 year lease unless the landlord agrees to not allow a grocery store in the old Safeway. Please come by and sign our petition, let Albertson's know you do not appreciate their strong arm (sic) tactics. Support our community's efforts to attract a new grocery store to replace the old Safeway. Don't let Monument Village lose their anchor store. - Dr. Ron Engler

Dr. Engler, during a telephone conversation, expressed a need for a business with a major draw to operate in that location. While other retail outlets in the vacant building would be helpful, Dr. Engler stated another grocery store would best serve the area, and create a stronger draw for the plaza.

If you would like more information, or would like to sign the petition, visit Redlands Chiropractic and Wellness Center during the week from 9:00 to 6:00. The office is closed on Thursdays.
