NUCLA, Colo. (AP) — The town of Nucla is hoping to get a reputation for something other than mining uranium.

The town in Montrose County is desperate for local jobs and state lawmakers are trying to determine if the community can bring in a casino.

The Associated Press reports town officials aren't confident they can get it done. The state currently limits casinos to the mining towns of Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central City.

A proposal for a uranium and vanadium mill near Nucla is still under consideration.
