Nobody who lived through the horror of the attacks that took place on Sept. 11, 2001 will ever forget that terrible day.

In the worst terrorist attack in American history, terrorists operating under Al Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes and flew them into carefully planned targets. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City both fell completely after being struck, while the Pentagon was also impacted. Another plane missed its intended target and went down in a field in Pennsylvania after a valiant rally from passengers against the hijackers.

2,753 Americans died in New York City, while 184 people died at the Pentagon and 40 more were killed when Flight 93 went down in Pennsylvania. The entire world was fixated on the coverage as the towers fell, as thousands of people died on live television and an entire nation mourned the loss of its innocence.

Country music responded to the tragedy with a series of patriotic anthems, including classics like Darryl Worley's "Have You Forgotten," Toby Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue," Aaron Tippin's "Where the Stars and Stripes & the Eagle Fly" and, of course, Alan Jackson's incomparable "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning." On the anniversary of that dark day, some of country's most patriotic stars remembered the attacks in posts to social media. Take a look at those posts by clicking through the gallery above.
