If you are wanting to capture the beauty all around us on the Western Slope and can't afford to upgrade your cameras, the Mesa County Libraries can help you out. They have some great cameras and computers that you can borrow to get the best results.

I am constantly amazed at all our Mesa County Library system has to offer. From books, movies, computers and even office space, and now digital cameras and GoPro equipment for you to use.

It is free and easy to become a user of the libraries in Mesa County. Once you have your library card you are only limited by your imagination on all the things you can do. Want to head out on a photo safari? The library has two Canon T5i Digital Camera Kits that you can borrow for more professional results. If you are not that technically advanced but still want good results, they offer a Nikon Coolpix Point-and-Shoot Kit.

Want to capture videos of your travels? Take out one of the two GoPro Action Camera Kits that they have available. These kits include everything you need from memory cards to tripods.

The rules for checking out equipment are a little more strict that a regular book or movie.

  • All camera kits must be checked out at and returned to the PC Desk at the Central Library (please do not return to other branches)
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Fines on your account cannot exceed $10.00
  • One item checkout per account at a time
  • Do not put equipment or kits in Library book drops
  • Equipment and kits check out for one week at a time
  • There are no renewals for equipment
  • There is no grace period for the return date

The Central Library and some of the branch locations also offer computers for use in the library that will help you edit and finalize your projects. Chromebooks and iPads can be checked out or you can use the iMacs located in the computer room and the Teen center. They have various editing programs already installed for you.

If you are more of a Windows person, they have laptop computers that you can check out and use in the library for editing. They can even teach you how to use the computers and editing programs. Don't forget about the audio and video recording equipment that is available at the 970West Studios.
