Neal McCoy first caught the attention of Charley Pride in 1981 after winning a talent contest hosted by Janie Fricke. Following their meeting, McCoy landed a gig as opening act for Pride.

McCoy and Pride have performed and recorded together repeatedly over the years. In recent years, they performed together along with Janie Fricke for the "Music of Your Life" TV special which aired on PBS.
