Mosquitoes calling Western Colorado home are about to get a rude awakening when the Grand River Mosquito Control District dedicates their new facility.

The week of June 21 has been proclaimed National Mosquito Control Awareness Week, and Western Colorado residents are invited to an open house at the Grand River Mosquito Control District.

The Grand River Mosquito Control District has been in operation since 1982 on the Redlands. The District's service area was expanded in 1997 to include Fruita. The service are was expanded again in 2004, via election, to include Orchard Mesa, Clifton and Palisade. In 2012, the service area was expanded again to include Grand Junction and the South Redlands area.

The Grand River Mosquito Control District invites the public to join them for an open house at their new facility, Thursday, June 25, from 3:00PM to 6:00PM, at 531 Maldonado Street in Grand Junction.
