A mom in South Austin, Texas has her parenting skills called in question for letting her kids play outside. But is there more to the story?

Kari Anne Roy's six-year-old son was playing outside near a park bench that is approximately 150 yards from his house, but still visible from Roy's front porch.

Roy recieved a knock on her front door from concerned woman who saw the boy playing alone and decided to bring the boy back to his house, where he would be safe with an adult -- Kari his mom.

The concerned woman then called the police and Kari received a visit from Austin's finest a few moments later. Kari was questioned about the whereabouts of her son and how long he'd been gone for, but the policewomen declined to file a report.

BUT.

About a week later, Child Protective Services made a visit to her house and questioned each of Kari's three children WITHOUT her present to see if any childhood endangerment crimes had occurred at any point. CPS determined those allegations were unfounded.

Have we gotten so sensitive as a society that if we see a kid playing by him or herself alone in a public area that we automatically assume that there is some kind of abuse going on?
