Authorities are searching for a 17-year-old boy who was last seen in the Colorado River.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department, along with members of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Grand Junction Police Department, and the Clifton Fire Department took to the water of the Colorado River to search for a teen who was swimming in the river without a flotation device.

Utilizing four boats, the responders search the river from 32 1/2 Road to 29 Road. Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 6), search and rescue efforts transitioned to recovery efforts as swift-water swimmers search river debris, rocks and other locations where a body may get stuck.

The search was called off near dark and will continue today.

The Colorado River levels are not at its high point, but water is moving swiftly and precautions must be taken while enjoying the river.
