The Mesa County Sheriff's Office recently released an update on the condition of Deputy Derek Geer who was shot in the line of duty yesterday (Feb. 8).

On their website, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office posted an update on Deputy Geer, stating:

It is important that we provide the most accurate information on the condition of Deputy Derek Geer and to clarify any misconceptions that have been published.

Unfortunately, Deputy Geer's condition has not improved.  He is on life-support so he can perform one last selfless act of service by donating his organs.

We anticipate this process to occur within the next 48 hours, after which time all life sustaining measures will cease.

Deputy Geer is a Navy veteran who has been in service with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office since October 2001. Geer is married and has two kids, 13 and 11.

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for Deputy Geer and his family, if you'd like to help, please donate.

Our thoughts are with Deputy Geer, his friends and family and the whole Mesa County Sheriff's Department.
