A Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy is on leave after receiving minor injuries in an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning.

The early morning incident started when a Colorado State Patrol Trooper contacted a female driver and a male passenger in a car parked in the Rite-Aid parking lot Thursday morning (October 18) at 4 a.m. The female suspect fled the scene in the car crashing into the Trooper's vehicle during the escape.

Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy Troy Jones located the suspect's vehicle in the area and after a short chase ending at F 3/4 and 31 Road, fired a shot injuring the suspect identified as 40-year-old Deziree Fisher of Grand Junction. Jones received minor injuries in the incident and was treated at a Grand Junction hospital and released.

Fisher was treated at a hospital in Denver. After being released from the hospital Thursday night, Fisher was arrested and charged with,

  • Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Substance
  • Eluding a Police Officer
  • Reckless Driving
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Driving on a Revoked License

Fisher was remanded to the Denver County Jail until she could be transported back to Grand Junction. As per standard protocol, Deputy Jones is on paid leave pending the completion of an investigation by the Critical Response Team.

The male passenger in the vehicle, who was not identified, exited the vehicle before Fisher fled the scene was detained by the Colorado State Patrol.
