Mesa County Deputy Shot Responding to Call

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department reports one deputy was shot while reporting to a call about a man with a gun.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m., deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office responded to a call in the 500 block of Fruitvale Ct in Grand Junction about a man with a gun.

One deputy was shot after making contact with the suspect. The deputy was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The suspect fled the scene but has since been taken into custody. Area schools have been placed on lockdown.
