Spring is here, and wildfires are burning at a handful of locations across Colorado. Yesterday's high winds didn't exactly help. Stay up to speed with Colorado's wildfires with this handy map.

With any luck, today's milder wind speeds and 30% chance of rain will offer relief. According to this map courtesy of Google Maps, Western Colorado's Skipper Island fire, depending on which side of I-70 you happen to be talking about, is currently 90% contained (as of 10:46 a.m. on April 20, 2018). This is drastically better than the 0% containment crews were faced with 36 hours earlier.

At this time, the map shows four active wildfires across Colorado. In addition to the locations, the map sites the source of the information, the percent of containment, and the size of the fire in acres.

In some instances, the map offers a highly detailed outline of the region affected. This outline, combined with the normal features associated with Google Maps, shows specific streets and structures impacted by the fire.

This would be a valuable resource to have handy. As you've seen with both the Rosevale Road fire and now the Skipper Island fire, flames can spread quickly in our arid region. The path and size of a fire can change in an instant. This service may warrant a tab of its own on your computer.
