No matter how long you have lived in Colorado, there's always more things to learn.

Steamboat Springs is a popular destination in Colorado and everybody knows about it, but it's possible you don't know a lot about this tiny town of 12,000 nestled in Colorado's northern high country.

Of course, Steamboat Springs is known for its awesome skiing, but there's more to Steamboat than just snow. Hopefully, in the next couple of moments you will learn something you didn't know.  Here are five interesting facts about Steamboat Springs.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?
As the story goes, in the early 1800s, some trappers heard what they thought was the engine of a steamboat coming down the river. The sound turned out to be coming from a natural mineral spring which would be named the Steamboat Spring. The town would be incorporated in 1900 with 3 hotels, 3 livery stables, 3 banks, 4 general stores, 2 meat markets, as well as other businesses.

NO NEED TO BE HUNGRY OR THIRSTY
Steamboat Springs is a small town, but, yet, it boasts of some 130 restaurants and bars to go along with four local breweries. Whether you're in the mood for Italian, Mexican, Asian,  BBQ, or Steak & Seafood, there is definitely no shortage of options.

SCHOOLS NEVER CLOSE
Considering the fact that Steamboat Springs receives an average annual snowfall of    180 inches, it might be surprising to learn that students here have never missed school because of a snow day. Snow is definitely a way of life, and they have obviously learned to deal with it.

A HIKER'S PARADISE
Steamboat Springs is most well-known for awesome skiing, but it's actually a great place to find a trail.  You'll find some 165 hiking trails in the Steamboat Springs area, the longest of which is 3 miles. There are trails for hikers and backpackers, as well as trails for biking and ATVs.

OF COURSE, THEY HAVE HOT SPRINGS
The Steamboat Springs area is home to about 150 mineral springs. The commercial facilities include Old Town Hot Springs, a historic spring and recreational facility, and there's the popular Strawberry Park outside of town with 104-degree mineral water.
