Kid Rock helped make the holidays a little brighter for more than 300 families in the Nashville area this year. The singer paid off all of the remaining layaways at a local Walmart.

According to the Tennessean, Rock recently spent about $81,000 to pay off the balances on all of the remaining layaway items at the Dickerson Pike Walmart. The store tells CNN that Rock helped "[bring] incredible joy to about 350 families in Nashville."

On Twitter, Rock shares that he was inspired to action by actor Tyler Perry, who spent more than $400,000 paying off layaways at a Walmart in Atlanta, Ga. "Great idea! I followed your lead," Rock writes. "Merry Christmas and God Bless You!"

Rock and Perry's actions are part of a trend in recent years: During the holiday season, anonymous community members, both celebrities and not, have been known to pay off layaways. In 2016, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill played Santa at a Walmart in Macclenny, Fla.; McGraw's mother, Betty Trimble, paid off about $5,000 worth of items on behalf of her son and daughter-in-law.

The news of Rock's good deed comes shortly after some public outcry against the artist: In late November, Rock made derogatory remarks toward The View host Joy Behar on live TV, prompting his removal as grand marshal of the 2018 Nashville Christmas Parade.
