The Avalon Theatre project in downtown Grand Junction is a mult-million dollar effort, and the cost just went up another million.

According to KREX TV, another million dollars is needed to finish the job. The report indicates there is still a need for bathrooms on the second floor, and the completion of a multi-purpose room. The Grand Junction City Council took an unofficial vote Monday night to approve funding which would raise the cost of the remodeling project to over $9.5 million.

We certainly appreciate the undertaking of a much needed project to renovate and preserve a functional Grand Junction land mark. But, coming in a million dollars over the projected budget of $8.6 million, makes one wonder how that happens.

Of course, what can the city do at this point? You can't leave the project unfinished. The work must go on, and the project must be seen to completion. But, we probably learn a hard and valuable lesson in the process.

So what do you think? Is the Avalon Theatre worth another million dollars? Is it worth the nearly $10 million the project ultimately will cost? Take our poll below and tell us what you think.
