I would never take a chance and head out on a lake even if it is frozen over. You hear about too many people falling in the water because they think a lake is frozen over.

If you go on the ice, first take note of the locations of several ice rescue stations around Highline Lake and Mack Mesa.

Never go onto the ice alone. Keep a buddy close by so that they can call for help if you fall in. Also, never attempt to walk out onto the ice to rescue someone; you might fall through the ice.

Always wear a life jacket.  Wear a life jacket or personal flotation device over winter clothing. Life jackets provide excellent flotation and protection from hypothermia.
