A traffic stop on Interstate 70 west of Grand Junction early Tuesday morning (August 4) became a huge drug bust netting several pounds of cocaine and methamphetamine.

A deputy assigned to the Western Colorado Drug Task Force, stopped an eastbound vehicle around 2:30 a.m. on I-70 near mile marker 16.

During the traffic stop, the deputy discovered large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Two men, 27-year-old Jesus Galvez from Arizona and 36-year-old Faustino Martinez from Mexico were arrested on felony charges of distribution of schedule I/II drugs. Galvez was also charged with a traffic violation.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office reports the two men were in possession of 6.4 pounds of meth and 8.2 pounds of cocaine.

Looking at rough street prices for these drugs, the cocaine could be worth ~$572,726 and the meth could be worth ~$290,300. That's a lot of illegal drugs off the streets.
