The Grand Junction Police Department is encouraging residents to help protect their neighborhoods against crime by registering for the "National Night Out coming up August 4. Have you signed up?

The annual National Night Out is designed to help fight crime by building a sense of camaraderie between residents of the neighborhood.

All neighborhoods registered for the event are eligible to have a Grand Junction Police Officer stop by to answer questions and provide information.

What do neighbors do during the "National Night Out"? That's entirely up to them. Neighbors can get together for a BBQ, or for a simple gathering in the front yard.

Registering your neighborhood is very easy. An application is available from the Grand Junction Police Department.

What if your neighborhood has already been registered? For that matter, how do you find out if someone has already taken steps to sign up your neighborhood? That information is available from the Grand Junction Police Department.

In the event, someone has already signed your neighborhood, the contact person's name and address are provided. In addition, the type of gathering, for example, barbecue, pool party, etc., is also provided.

Let criminals know your neighborhood will not tolerate crime in your area. Sign up for the "National Night Out" coming up Tuesday, August 4.
