Grand Junction Skips Fall Entirely and Goes Straight to Winter

Do you remember when Western Colorado used to observe a thing called “autumn”? It happened every year. We seem to have misplaced something.

I was born in Grand Junction, and I swear to you, in my 47 years, we’ve always experienced a fall season. It never really amounted to much. Grand Junction has typically made a rapid transition from summer to winter. Nevertheless, we still observed at least a few weeks of fall weather.

According to KREX 5, Grand Junction hit a chilly 32 degrees this morning. That’s a new record low. This is the first time we’ve seen 32 degrees since April 30. If you think the Valley had it bad, check out Gunnison — 22 degrees.

Will we see this again tonight? The National Weather Service says “No.” The NWS predicts Monday night’s low to be around 43, with the rest of the week’s nighttime temperatures getting progressively warmer.

What kind of winter should we expect? According to the Farmer’s Almanac,¬† we should expect a cold, but not necessarily harsh, winter. Okay, that’s a bit of a cop-out. That sounds like most any Colorado winter.

Hang in there, fall might show its face. Again, I was born here, and I’ve seen the fall season with my own eyes.
