Walmart is closing 269 stores, but the Grand Junction and Western Colorado stores won't be among the closures.

In an Associated Press report on Yahoo, Walmart will start the closures by the end of the month, but the Grand Junction stores will not be affected, including the new Walmart Neighborhood Market near Central High School.

The number of closures is small in relation to the 4500 Walmarts in the U.S. and 11,000 stores world wide. The stores that are closing represent less than 1% of the company's global revenue.

The only two Walmart stores closing in Colorado are in the Denver metropolitan area.

It's interesting to note that more than 95% of the stores in the U.S. that are closing are within 10 miles of another Walmart. The closures include super centers, neighborhood markets, discount centers, and Sam's Clubs.

The company is reportedly still planning to open several new stores in 2016 including 50-60 super centers, 85-95 Neighborhood Markets, and 7-10 Sam's Clubs in the United States.
