A long-time Grand Junction family summer favorite, Glade Park 'Movies Under the Stars' is starting its summer season this Friday (June 3) with more than just movies.

Over the years, the outdoor free movie night has gone from a few games and the movie to an entire evening full of fun and games, entertainment, and activities for all ages.

The kick-off for this summer is no exception with Garry and Sandy Parkerson on stage, an obstacle course and safety trailer, compression only CPR Class and the movie, 'Over the Hedge' opening night, June 3.

In addition to special weekly activities, every Friday will feature kids games, volleyball, and hayrides.

'Movies Under the Stars' is held at and is a fundraiser for, the Glade Park Volunteer Fire Department. A concession stand with food, beverages and snacks helps the fire department raise money for equipment and training.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets, but no outside food or beverage. If you're hungry, bring some cash for a burger, hot dog or brat from the grill. Then, top it off with popcorn, nachos, and other goodies.

On a typical Friday night, people start rolling in around 5:30 p.m. to pick their spot and grab a bite to eat before enjoying the games and entertainment followed by the movie which starts a dusk.

Here are the June 'Movies Under the Stars' schedule:

  • June 3 - 'Over the Hedge'
  • June 10 - 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop'
  • June 17 - 'Minions'
  • June 24 - 'Mr. Popper's Penguins'
