First graders at Fruitvale Elementary School in Grand Junction were all surprised with a new set of wheels. 70 first graders received a free bicycle and helmet.

This Thursday (September 27) every single first grader received a free bicycle and a free helmet. With 70 first graders at Fruitvale Elementary, that's a lot of bikes and helmets.

The students were given a free bike and helmet as part of the 'Treads and Trail' program from the Can'd Aid Foundation, according to KKCO.

The 'Treads and Trail' program aims to get kids active and outside. And bikes check off both of those boxes. The Can'd Aid Foundatin has given away over 1,000 bikes in Colorado alone and donates to bikes all across the nation.

According to KKCO, Sarah Leavitt from the Can'd Aid Foundation says:

I've definitely seen some tears and some screaming. Kids just lose their mind. they say this is the best day ever. They can't believe it. They get so emotional.

And that's the thing where it's really hitting home and it means a lot to them that they are getting something they otherwise might not be able to have.

I remember how excited I was to get a bike (or a scooter) and I'm so happy these students get to experience that. Riding a bike definitely makes you be active and enjoy the great outdoors, all at the same time.
