A former employee at Pomona Elementary School in Grand Junction has pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault with a 16-year-old.

Mandy Lyn Scoggins had been issued a summons on suspicion of two counts of misdemeanor sexual assault on an underage victim with a 10 year age difference back in June of 2016. The victim was 16 at the time. Although the victim was not a student, the school district stated that they still have a code of conduct that employees must follow.

The victim told police that he and Scoggins had intercourse on two different occasions at her home. According to the state of Colorado, sexual intercourse is looked upon as sexual assault if the victim is between 15 and 17 years old, with an age difference to the suspect of more than 10 years. Scoggins was 36.

In a courtroom late last week, Scoggins plead guilty to one count of sexual assault on an underage victim. She has been ordered to five years probation, court fines in excess of $5,000 and will now have to register as a sex offender wherever she goes.
