Climate-change panel discussion set for Aug. 4 at Mesa County Central Library

An illuminating panel discussion about the local impact of climate change is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library, Fifth Street and Grand Avenue in Grand Junction.

The panel, titled “It’s Our Food, Forests, and Water: A Climate Change Discussion,” will include several experts on topics such as geology, water, and agriculture. Panelists include Jay Scheevel, a geology expert who will focus on the geology of carbon; Gigi A. Richard, faculty director of the Water Center at Colorado Mesa University, who will look at the implications of climate change on Colorado’s water resources; Jerry Nelson, professor emeritus at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, who will examine climate change’s effect on agriculture; and Chris Jauhola, who worked on wildlife and forest health issues for the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management and will discuss climate change and forest health.

The event is open to the public at no charge.
