Garth Brooks will NOT be using an opening act at some of his performances this week at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Do you care?

It's pretty much expected that a major star will use an opening act at a concert. The only reason Garth opted not to during his shows in Denver is due to the short period of time between back to back performances.

It has happened; the opening act end ups putting on a better show than the headliner. However, more often than not, the opener is an up-and-coming act or even a local performer.

From the headliner's point of view, the reason for using an opening act is simple: it gives the sound guys a chance to get the P.A. set before the big star takes the stage.

Being an opening act can be a nightmarish torture session conjured by demons sent from the very gates of Hell. The audience can be brutal, the headliner can be a jerk, and the sound guys can take even a top-notch opening act and make them sound like K.C. and The Sunshine Band on crack.

When you go to a concert, do you want to hear an opening act? Would you prefer they just get on with the main act? Have you ever enjoyed an opening act more than the headliner?
