A plane described by witnesses as a "military-style" aircraft has made an emergency landing at Grand Junction Regional Airport after hitting a power line in Debeque Canyon.

According to KKCO 11 News, witnesses say the plane, an L-39 Albatros, hit a power line and possibly a few cars.

Calls began coming into emergency centers at approximately 1:00 p.m. today with witnesses reporting the plane had struck a power line near Roller Dam along Interstate 70 in the Debeque Canyon.

According to KKCO 11 News, the plane circled for about 20 minutes to burn fuel before landing. KKCO adds the plane is now being stored in a hanger located on private property. The Grand Junction Regional Airport states they cannot reveal the condition of the plane or what damage was incurred.

As of 2 p.m. this afternoon, the right lanes of both east and wWestbound I-70 had been closed by CDOT.
