When you are in Colorado,  you never know when you might have an encounter with a creepy snake.

There are two kinds of people in the world. There are those who think all snakes are creepy and then there are those that don't. I belong to the former group, and I believe that is the larger of the two groups.

I realize that most of the 30 some kinds of snakes you could encounter in Colorado are harmless and nonvenomous. But, so is a can of creamed corn, but that doesn't mean I want to have it on the dinner table, or heaven forbid, on my plate. I don't like snakes.

I don't wish to do harm to snakes, and I do my best to avoid any face to face encounter. In my world, if I am close enough to a snake to determine what kind of snake it is, I'm too close. But, you can see from some of these Colorado photos, snakes can be very discreet and difficult to detect.

Of course, rattlesnakes are the big one you want to avoid, like the prairie rattlesnake picture above. Get too close to a rattler and it may your final snake encounter.

For me, the best way to "enjoy" Colorado snakes is by looking at other people's photos of them. So with that in mind, allow me to share with you a few Colorado snake encounters. Notice how often times the snakes are very well disguised.
