There's been an increase in counterfeit money recovered in Rifle according to the Rifle Police Department. Here is what to look out for.

According to the Rifle Police Department, the number of counterfeit bills in Rifle have increased. They advise to always inspect your bills when you get change. Especially the $20 and $100 bills.

I don't know who thinks it's cool to try to pass off Monopoly money as real money, but here are a few things to look out for:

  • The texture and color of the bill
  • Security features such as strip/watermark
  • Any additional lettering printed on bill

The Rifle Police Department has recovered bills with Chinese lettering on the front or back, according to their Facebook. Do you have a counterfeit bill? Call the Rifle Police Department if you do.

Call Garfield County Crime Stoppers at 970-945-0101 if you have any info about the production of the counterfeit money. Remember, you can remain anonymous and they pay you for tips that can lead to an arrest.
