Scheels opened it's first Colorado store over the weekend in Johnstown. Could this be the first of many? How about Grand Junction for a location?

30,000 - 40,000 were expected to walk through the doors Saturday and Sunday at the Grand Opening of the all new Scheels megastore in the small town about 15 minutes south of Fort Collins. In fact, the town is so small, that there are only about 20 police officers on the city's roster. So they had to recruit from neighboring towns and cities to help with crowd control and traffic during the grand opening.

Could we sustain a store like that here in Grand Junction? Maybe not a mega store, but I think a Scheels would go over pretty well. Tourists, I am sure would visit and shop. Plus, it isn't like we don't have a few empty buildings and lots that are available.

Scheels has 26 stores across 11 (now 12) states in the country including Nebraska, Utah and Nevada. The company employees more than 6,000 people. They sell a large number of items, but mainly their focus is on sporting goods, active wear and outdoor activity merchandise.

Might be a good fit here in Grand Junction. We certainly have a number of outdoor activity options in the Grand Valley.
