Grand Junction is hosting the Colorado Special Olympics Summer Games this weekend. (June 10-12)

At the Special Olympics Summer Games, more than 1,000 athletes from across the state will compete for medals in aquatics, gymnastics, track and field, powerlifting, and soccer.

Colorado Mesa University is hosting events on campus and at Stocker Stadium. The public is not only welcome but encouraged to come watch these special athletes compete and to cheer them on.

You may not personally know these athletes, but your cheers and applause will mean the world to them and will be such an encouragement to them.

The opening ceremonies on Friday night will feature the parade of athletes, entertainment, the LETR Torch Run, and the lighting of the cauldron. It sounds like it will be a very inspirational  evening.
