Spring is in the air and Colorado waters are calling, and so here are five awesome Colorado fishing destinations that are waiting for you. If you haven't already, it's time to get the rod down and get your gear together.

Chatfield State Park, just south of Denver offers plenty of great fishing opportunities in Chatfield Lake and the South Platte River. It's probably going be a bit warmer than the higher elevations if that happens to be one of your considerations.

People may wonder about the opportunity for fishing in the Animas River following the Gold King Mine disaster, but Perfect Fly says the fishing is back. The Durango area offers miles and miles of public access for fishing on the Animas.

The Roaring Fork River isn't that far away from the Grand Valley, and definitely close enough for some weekend fishing. Rainbows, browns, brookies and even mountain whitefish can be found in various sections of the river.

The Gunnison River is a fairly popular fishing destination in Western Colorado with miles and miles of fishing available. Hike, wade, or float, the choice is yours. There are plenty of forks, tributaries, and sub-tributaries offering all kinds of trout, mainly rainbow and browns.

RMNP is vast and provides a ton of fishing opportunities in lakes, streams, and rivers. You can expect some chilly conditions in early spring, but if the fish don't mind it, why not?
