Colorado Day 2017 – The Centennial State Celebrates 141st Birthday
Colorado is celebrating 141 years of statehood Tuesday (August 1) and there are plenty of birthday activities to help make the state's birthday fun.
Colorado became a US state on August 1, 1876, when President Ulysses S. Grant signed a proclamation making Colorado the 38th state.
The proclamation was made just 28 days after the US Centennial. The nickname, Centennial State, comes from America's 100th birthday and the statehood of the Colorado territory are both in the same year and less than a month apart.
For Colorado Day 2017 there are a number of activities around the state on the day itself and throughout the week following.
Colorado Day also kicks off Colorado Proud Month which showcases Colorado grown, raised and processed food and agricultural products.
