A bill now signed into law gives Coloradans the right to store extra energy generated from alternative sources without having to worry they will be penalized for energy used from their utility provider.

Colorado Senate Bill SB18-009 was signed by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper on Thursday (March 22). The state is one of the first to give specific legal rights to store energy and protections against bias from utility companies when they use traditional energy.

Battery storage systems are becoming more popular because the prices for the systems is becoming more affordable allowing consumers to store extra electricity rather than feed it back into the grid.

The addition of battery storage is attractive to consumers because the amount of energy generated from renewable energy sources fluctuates and doesn't always meet the needs or demands of the consumer.
