Cold weather tips to handle those negative degrees outside!

Here's some tips to help you deal with the cold weather from various agencies around Colorado.

Mesa County Animal Services reminds you to protect your pet with these tips:

  1. Short haired pets or very young or old pets should never be left outside for extended periods of time no matter what the temperature
  2. Pet houses should be elevated off the ground, & insulated with straw or heated
  3. Pet houses should also have a door to keep out cold air and inclement weather
  4. Water - IMPORTANT: Use plastic bowls to prevent your pet injuring it's tongue during cold weather, heated water dishes are also recommended

Ute Water Suggests following these tips to avoid frozen pipes:

  1. Close garage doors
  2. Disconnect hoses from outside spigots
  3. Let water drip from the faucet of exposed pipes
  4. Open Kitchen & Bathroom Cabinets Doors to Circulate Warm Air to Plumbing
  5. Know where your MAIN shut off valve is located in case of a water line break

It's a good reminder to outdoor enthusiasts who snowshoe, ski, or snowboard to be careful. Always stay aware of where you are and the avalanche risk for that area.
