The Colorado Mesa Women's basketball team is spending their Thanksgiving helping out the less fortunate here in the Grand Junction area.

Along with the company Sodexo Dining Services, the Lady Mavs are taking time away from their families to make a difference this holiday season. The basketball players have been working with the Salvation Army since last Friday to prepare and cook more than 100 turkeys, hundreds of pounds of stuffing and enough gravy to sink a small ship.

The goal is to feed more than 1,400 people in the Grand Valley.

Way to go Lady Mavs! Truly a class act. Hopefully, your act of selflessness can inspire others (including me) to do something for others this Holiday season. That is what the holidays are supposed to be about.

This dinner will be served at the Elk's Lodge on 4th Street downtown Grand Junction from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. It is a free meal and anyone is invited to stop in. If you are unable to attend, the Salvation Army will deliver meals as well. Plus, a shuttle will provide free transportation to the Elk's Lodge leaving from Homeward Bound at 2839 North Avenue. For more information please call 242-7513.
