Western Colorado residents woke up this morning to a truly white Christmas. What better time for a peaceful walk on Grand Junction's gorgeous Audubon Trail?

Getting to the trail wasn't easy. Snow had to shoveled from the driveway first. The trip through town was done fresh on the tail of a city snowplow. While snow wasn't terribly deep, it was among the better snowfalls Western Colorado has seen in the last few years.

The Audubon Trail, setting out from the shopping center at Broadway and Monument Road, is wonderful any time of year. In the winter, though, it is magnificent.

Today's walk resulted in encountering exactly four other walkers. Strangely, crews had not cleared the trail as of 9:00 am. Most years, crews are out on a John Deere Gator bright and early.

If you make this walk while there's still snow on the ground, please BE CAREFUL. The rains from a few days ago resulted in a slippery sheet of ice. That ice, combined with a fresh layer of snow, makes for hazardous conditions.

Make the most of the holiday, and enjoy a snowy Christmas walk on the Audubon Trail.
