A fast-moving hailstorm dropped hail large enough to kill animals, injure visitors, and damage hundred of vehicles at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on Monday.

The softball-sized hail damaged roughly 400 cars in the zoo's parking lot so badly they were not driveable leaving 3,400 people stranded at the zoo.

A 9News report said there were a total of 14 human injuries, with some victims taken to the hospital. The two animals killed were a Muscovy Duck and a Cape Vulture. Zoo staff are checking the other animals at the zoo for possible injuries.

The zoo is closed today while damage is assessed. It is unknown when the zoo will reopen but officials say they are working to reopen as quickly as possible.
