Carrie Underwood's "Blown Away" tour is making its way around the world, in no particular order. The tour bounces back and forth across two continents and more than 14-thousand miles in under seven days. Could Carrie's booking agent consider coming up with some better routing?

To determine a practical answer to that question, let's utilize the good ol' science paper approach courtesy of West Jr. High's 7th Grade Science class:

  • Hypothesis: Carrie Underwood is traveling too far between gigs.
  • Materials: Commercial aircraft, road crew, one ultra-sensational Country music star
  • Observations:
  1. Carrie goes from gig in Rio Rancho, NM on March 8th to next gig in Dublin, Ireland.
  2. Leaves gig in Dublin to go to next date in Belfast, ME
  3. Departs gig in Belfast to next gig in London, England.
  4. Concludes gig in London and immediately departs for next gig in Richmond, VA.
  5. Travel miles exceed 14,000.
  • Conclusion: Carrie Underwood's agent is a meat head.

Yes, it is true that there are people in this world that rack up as many travel miles as Carrie Underwood.  They are called "Astronauts."

In the music business, the most practical and economically effecting way of carrying out a tour is to utilize the craft of "routing." For example: artist leaves gig in Las Vegas, NV, to go to next gig in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following show in Salt Lake, tour goes to Grand Junction, CO. Next stop after Grand Junction would be Denver.  After Denver, next stop is Kansas City, KS.  See the pattern? Bar bands and "B" and "C" room acts have been utilizing this practice for decades.

Carrie is putting herself in harms way and at risk of burnout with this catastrophic travel setup. With all the travel and stress, she could go from looking like this:
