Is it a solid, a liquid or WHAT?! Today's "Moon Sand" recipe comes from the John McConnell Math and Science Center on Orchard Mesa!

I love this stuff! Moon Sand looks and flows like liquid, but it can be formed into shapes, it's AMAZING-it's SCIENCE!

Making it is half the fun, but it's messy so lay down a large sheet of butcher paper down before you start (you can get rolls for free at Colorado Printing or the Daily Sentinel).

Today's Tip-If your child is going through the terrible twos like mine is, I've found the only thing you can do when they are fussing or screaming for no reason is to distract them with something else... i.e. "Oooo look at the big bird!", "Where's a truck?", "Lets go find . . . " etc. Hopefully this Moon Sand will distract them long enough for you to get one task done around the house.

Moon Sand:

  • 6 C. Play Sand (It getting from your kids sandbox make sure it is free of animal excrement)
  • 3 C. Cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 C. Cold Water

Instructions:

  1. Mix water & cornstarch thoroughly, till smooth
  2. Gradually mix in sand 1 cup at a time
  3. Work in with fingers
  4. Play with it!

Storage:

  1. Place in airtight container when done
  2. You can revive it with 2-3 Tbsp of water each time

Hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I have! If you've got one you think we'd like submit it here for your chance to win a great prize for your kitchen!
