15 Years Ago: Columbine Shooting Tragedy[VIDEO]

It was fifteen years ago today (April 20) that the nation's worse school shooting, up to that date, happened as two young men opened fire on their classmates and teachers at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. It was an event that, unfortunately, sparked more catastrophes of the same nature in the years that followed. Here is a look back at that day.

The Columbine High School shooting happened when students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold entered the school and began shooting randomly at people and ended after they had killed 13 people and injured 24 others before committing suicide at Columbine High School. Because they killed themselves as police entered the school, we never really did find out what caused them to initiated such an insane event.

In the confusion that happened, there were some so-called positives that came of that tragic day. Nothing that takes the life of innocent people can be positive, however this day did cause officials to create emergency plans in the event of the copycats that unfortunately recreate these unwanted incidences. It makes people more cautious and they then create plans to stop something of this nature from happening again. When they do happen, they are stopped as soon as possible to limit the loss of innocent life.

The Columbine Massacre, as it was later titled by the news media, is one of those events that causes you remember where you were at and what you were doing at the time, especially if you had children in school when it happened. We can only hope that the people that are hurt, confused and whatever else they are feeling that makes them lash out in violent ways against mostly innocent people, will actually talk to their parents, teachers, counselors and friends before ever acting to harm themselves or those around them.

Life is not fair, but it is not fair for almost everyone else too. We can keep the hope that there are no more school shootings that will reach any sort of "anniversary" date as we remember this one.
